Emmersyn's Firsts

The last couple of weeks have been big for E! She has been trying a lot of new things and her personality is really blossoming! Here's a post of all the things she's been doing the past two weeks:

First time in her Bumbo seat:

I love sitting her in it when I get tired of flipping her back over when she rolls over. She's only figured how to go from her back to belly and gets mad when she gets stuck. This seat is great for her to sit up and see what's going on!

First time in the exersaucer:

First cereal:

Lesson learned: Nurse this kid BEFORE trying to give her cereal or she gets REALLY mad!! Poor kid acts like she's starving, but clearly her thighs tell a different story!

Rolling over:

I was beginning to think E was going to be immobile forever. She was always so content laying on the ground and not moving. However, she's now figured out that if she rolls over she can A. get to things and B. get attention by screaming when she gets stuck on her belly!

Homemade Baby Cereal

So, this weekend I took the plunge into making Lincoln's baby cereal...crazy? Maybe. But it actually is pretty easy, although it is a little time consuming and a lot of dishes to clean. I'm hoping that once I get the system down I can be more efficient! I've got a baby food-making book (Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron) that I used when I made all of Riley's baby food and it had instructions on how to make baby cereal. I was never brave enough to do it with Riley, but I figured I'd at least try doing it with Lincoln. What's the advantage, you ask?? One, it's super healthy and I know what is going into his precious, chubby belly. I bought all organic food and the rest is either water or breastmilk. Two, it's cheaper--not by much, but it still is. I'm not so concerned about the $$ aspect as I am about the health aspect.

I've so far made rice and oatmeal. But, I can only make 3 days worth and keep it in the fridge, so I have to do it at least every three days. I measure out individual portions and store it that way--I can usually tell how much he'll eat. But, we'll see how long it lasts. I may just go back to Earth's Best :).

Lincoln's 1st Cereal

Well, Lincoln has entered into the world of Rice Cereal...already.

I took him to the lactation specialist again because he keeps crying after I finish nursing, I was still concerned that I wasn't making enough milk for him because of it. Well, I got there and when Cindy (the lactation specialist) came in she asked what the problem was and I said "I'm not sure if Lincoln is getting enough to eat because..." She took one look at him and said "I can guarantee he's getting enough from you" (because of his chubbiness). Anyways, they weighed him before I nursed him and then afterwards and she said that he's definitely getting enough according to how much milk he'd taken, she said that he's just such a big boy that he needs to start cereal. That's also why he's waking up 2-3 times a night now!! Oh by the way, he weighed 14 lbs. 10 oz!

So, Friday we began!! We had gone home for Labor Day and stayed at Ty's Grandma's house...this is how it went. He's obviously not sitting up yet since he's only 3 and a half months, so into his car seat he went. It's hard to believe that it's been almost 4 months and he's lived solely off of my milk. I'm thankful for how he's growing and that he's so healthy and am hoping that the cereal helps him sleep through the night again, I'm starting to get really exhausted!

He has no idea what's coming...
