Thank goodness for daddy!

This may sound pathetic, but today was my first outing with both kiddos all by myself. Lincoln is 6 weeks old and I have never taken them both out without Ty, it was definitely interesting. I knew it was going to be difficult so I prepared it seemed like all morning. I had Ty put the car seat base in the Explorer (it was in the Cadillac from when I went to my mom's with Lincoln yesterday) this morning before he went to work. Then when Riley was taking a nap I showered, fed Lincoln, swapped strollers, and put the diaper bag in the car. I also cut up grapes, and bagged goldfish, filled a sippy with milk, and got a few toys in a bag to keep Riley occupied in case Lincoln got fussy. Riley woke up a bit crabby, and Lincoln pooped on the way out to the car--I just knew it was going to be a long afternoon...

After changing Lincoln and getting him back into his car seat, we went to the car. I had to carry both of them because I accidentally left the pair of shoes I wanted Riley to wear in the car--they are heavy! Then once I pulled out of the parking space i remembered I forgot my wallet on the counter, so I had to take them both back out of the car and go inside to get it. In the meantime I lost my phone...and still can't find it. Anyways we were on our way...finally.

All I had to do was go to Toys R Us, TJMaxx, Old Navy and the Mall (Gap, and Express). Well, what was I thinking? I didn't think I had much to do but I forgot I would have both of them with me. I made it to Toys R Us, TJMaxx and Old Navy...got everything I needed for the kiddos and didn't even get to look for me...darn it. Riley was getting a bit fussy so I bribed her with Wendy's chicken nuggets if she was good; she was, so I went and got some for her (plus some for me and a LARGE ice water). Then we were on our way home. I took a drink of the water and Riley wanted some (of course) and she already drank her sippy. So I handed her the large water, from Wendy's and said "Don't spill it please..." Again, what was I thinking?? She spilled it EVERYWHERE and she of course started crying so I was driving while trying to calm her down and tell her it was okay and also clean up the water a little bit. In the meantime I missed my stupid exit.

So I had to go all the way to the next exit which couldn't have been 1 mile down the highway, instead it was 7 miles. By now Lincoln was screaming. I turned around to go west and I finally reached our exit and got off, then I turned the wrong way off the exit so I had to turn around at a gas station to get home. Finally we got home, in one piece (luckily, I think).

What a day...I don't think we'll be getting out much again any time soon!!! It definitely makes me even more thankful for Ty because things would be much more difficult without him!

Amen! I only have one child and I am still so thankful of Nate when we go out. When Kerith gets fussy and a bottle needs to be made, it's nice to have him driving so that I can make the bottle and calm her down. I actually took a 2 hour trip, just me and her, a few weekends ago and I had to make a bottle while driving and Kerith screaming until I made it! It's so nice to have someone else with you in case things dont go as planned (which they never seem to w/ kids!) Anyway-you were brave and as they get older, it will hopefully get easier and easier! :)

Oh girl! You need an extra set of hands. Yikes! I am grateful you have Ty too. I couldn't have asked for a better guy for you.

Shelby,
Tht is not abnormal believe me. :) Been there time and time again. It DOES GET EASIER. When Kylie was first born, it took me an hour to leave....now I can do it in about 15 mins. Just remember one stop at a time :)
Love you!

ugh that makes my head hurt just thinking about it! I only have Maeve and its a TRIP everytime we leave. She isn't a huge fan of being separated from me- so anything involving straps like carseats, strollers, she hates- she can't move around and look at me. :( So she sreams, I get a headache, etc. You know how it goes! Anyways after reading your post I am rethinking having another one anytime soon...

shelby, welcome to life with two little ones! Isn't it crazy? Matt works so much during residency that i am often alone with both kids and i have had MANY outings like this! They say that two is more than double the work and I think it's definitely true!!! I don't know if it gets any easier or if you just get used to it and lower your expectations!!!!
